Part 2 is this issue of Unified Memory in Apple Silicon. If you put the currently available OWC/Amazon RAM into an m1 MacBook Pro, I’d expect battery life to suffer tremendously. But that is not the type of RAM I am seeing at OWC. When LPDDR4 RAM (LP meaning Low Power) became available in larger capacities, Apple and PC laptop makers finally started offering 32GB RAM in small laptops where long battery life was required. Back then the only laptops with 32GB RAM had short battery life or massive batteries. Remember, until recently you could not have more than 16GB RAM in a MacBook Pro because of the power demands of the older RAM. I looked at the RAM that OWC has for the last MacBook Pros that can be upgraded, up until 2016. Is the RAM from Apple different (and in what way) from OWC's RAM ? For general users, 8GB should be more than enough.įor photographers, the extra $200 for the RAM upgrade should be worth it, if keeping the Mac for more than a couple years, because so much about photography benefits from more RAM.īTW, 8 GB ram modules are $43 from Amazon/OWC in earlier MBPs Even as low as $30.
